Unhewn

If you make an altar of stones for me, do not build it with dressed stones, for you will defile it if you use a tool on it. – Exodus 20:25

Raw, unadulterated. Me. You. Pure experience and intimate knowledge of Yah. Let’s build our altar not on our own efforts of perfection but on the raw substance that is Yah in us. Now I do not mean this as an pantheistic or self worshipping way. Rather I am advocating that we not approach the Almighty with strange fire like that which consumed Aaron’s eldest sons. (see Leviticus 10:1 -2) What I mean by that is that we ought not come in our own righteousness before the throne. Wear Christ when you approach the altar. (see Matthew 22:1-14) Live in His Spirit. Be Holy as He is Holy.

The beginning and the end of the previous paragraph may seem like contradictions. However that couldn’t be farther from the truth. We were made for fellowship with the Divine and He wants us. All of us. When we come to Him as we are, without pretension, we are honestly saying I can’t do this with out You. Then and only then can we take the first steps toward Holiness. Humility is honesty. When we approach the throne or the altar do so in complete honesty. But then like the wedding guests in Matthew 22 we must put on Christ’s righteousness to enter His rest. We must be raw, unhewn.
